Introduction to Premium Services

Premium Services (also referred to as "Subscription Services") are additional services implemented on the Bye Bye Standby website (online.domia.eu).

The basic (non subscription) package allows you to control individual devices - turning them on / off, from your web browser.

Premium Services add:

"Scenes" : The ability to have a number of devices change state with one mouse click.
"Schedules" : The ability to have devices change state at a pre-set date and time - either on a specific date,
or on a recurring daily pattern (e.g. every Monday at 09:00, every weekday at 17:30, every weekend at 12:00 ,
every Monday and Wednesday 11:00 etc).

N.B. Schedules can also trigger "Scenes", using the same flexible scheduling system described above. i.e. you can schedule a Scene to be set at a pre-set date/time or on a recurring pattern. This will become clearer later in this article.

Scenes - An Introduction

By defining Scenes, you can control the status (on / off) of one or more devices at a time.

To demonstrate this, I have created several more devices (following the steps in the previous section).

The "Device Control" page now looks like this:

Several devices have been defined

Creating A Scene

Click on "Manage Scenes" - you will see the following screen:

Manage Scenes page
Manage Scenes page

Clearly, there are no scenes defined at this point.

To create your first (and subsequent) scene(s), click "Add New Scene"

You will be presented with a list of all the devices you have defined, along with three options for each device - these are: "Turn On", "Turn Off", and "No Change".

The default selection is "No Change". As the name suggests, any device in a scene that is set to "No Change", does not change its status when a scene is set.

Enter a Name and Description for your scene, and select the desired status for each device.

When complete, press "Add Now", and the new scene will be created.

This process can be repeated several times, to create all the scenes you require.

The "Manage Scenes" page will display a list of all available scenes, as below:

Editing A Scene

After creating a scene, you may wish to edit it; for example, if you add a new device that you want included in the scene, or if you wish to exclude devices that are currently controlled by the scene.

In this example, I'll edit the previously created scene "All Lights On". To do so, click on its name in "Manage Scenes".

For example, let's edit "All Lights On".

You'll see that "Bed Lamp 1" and "Bed Lamp 2" have been set to "No Change" - and thus will be unaffected the next time this scene is set.

Remember to click "Update Now" to save your changes!

Deleting A Scene

If you no longer require a particular scene, you can delete it.

To do so, click "Manage Devices". Locate the scene you wish to delete, and click the "Delete" button:

You will be prompted to confirm that you want to delete the scene. If you click Cancel, the scene will not be deleted. If you click OK, the scene will be permanently deleted from your account. (N.B. You can manually recreate the scene again in the future, if you want to)

Setting A Scene

To select a scene, click "Set Scene" on the main menu

To Set a scene, click its name.

When a scene is set, you will be returned to the "Device Control" page, showing the current status of your devices.

Scene "All Lights On"
Scene "All Lights On"
Scene "All Lights Off"
Scene "All Lights Off"

Of course, you can still continue to control devices independently. e.g. After setting "All Lights On", you can then turn one or more of your lights off individually.

This concludes the section on Scenes Top of page

Schedules - An Introduction

If you have read the previous sections, you should now have a good understanding on how Devices and Scenes work; How to create, edit and delete them, how to turn devices on or off, and how to set a Scene.

Schedules expand upon both of these features, allowing you to change a device status, or set a scene, at a pre-defined time.

There are four types of schedule, these are:

 Recurring Device Schedule
 Recurring Scene Schedule
 Non-Recurring Device Schedule
 Non-Recurring Scene Schedule

All of which are explained in detail below.

As the names suggest, The differences between the four relate to whether they control Devices or Scenes, and if the Schedule is "Recurring" (e.g. every Monday @ 09:45), or "Non-Recurring" (e.g. 24th October 2010 @ 23:38)

The "Manage Schedules" pages is used to Add, Delete, Edit, Enable & Disable Schedules.

With no Schedules defined, it will look like this:

No Schedules Defined
No Schedules Defined

To Add a schedule, click "Add New Schedule". The following screen will appear:

Creating a Schedule
Creating a Schedule

N.B. The exact contents of the screen will depend on the Devices and Scenes you have created.

We will proceed with an image and explanation of each of the aforementioned schedule types.

Schedules - Recurring Device

A "Recurring Device" Schedules is a schedule that turns ONE Device On or Off, on one or more days of the week, at a particular time.

This is illustrated in the following image:

Recurring Device Schedule
Recurring Device Schedule

The first piece of information entered is the Name of the schedule, in this example, "Recurring Device Schedule 1". Please note that each of your schedules *must* have a unique name.

The second field, Description, is optional. It is a useful reminder of what the schedule does.

The Schedule Type has two options - Device or Scene. In this instance, we are creating a Device schedule, so that's the option to select.

Next, is a list of Devices - select the device that you want this schedule to control, and then choose the action - Turn On, or Turn off.

The fifth option allows you to choose if the schedule is recurring, or only happens once. In this example, we want a recurring schedule.

Next, choose which day(s) of the week this Schedule applies to - You can select one or more days. In the example, we have selected Monday to Friday.

Finally, Select the time at which the Schedule runs - in this case - 07:15.

As you can now see, this example schedule will turn the device called "Coffee Maker" ON at 7:15AM every weekday.

Clicking "Create Schedule" will save this schedule in your account, and return you to the Schedule Management page, where you will see your newly created schedule listed:

Newly created schedule is listed
Newly created schedule is listed

From here, you can Edit or Delete the schedule if you so wish. You can also choose to Disable / Enable the schedule - all of these options are explained further on.

N.B. You do not need to do anything else at this point - your schedule is ready to run at the appropriate time.

Schedules - Recurring Scene Schedule

Our next example is a "Recurring Scene" Schedule. A "Recurring Device" Schedule is a schedule that sets a Scene on one or more days of the week, at a particular time.

This is illustrated in the following image:

Recurring Scene Schedule
Recurring Scene Schedule

As with all Schedules, the first required field is a Name - this must be unique (you can not have two schedules with the same name.

Again, you have an optional Description field.

The "Type" is set to "Scene", which presents a list of available scenes for you to choose from.

In this example, we have selected "All Lights Off".

Again, we are creating a Recurring Schedule - so that option is selected.

Choose the days of the week on which you want the schedule to run; in this example, Monday, Saturday & Sunday are selected.

Finally, Choose a time - in this case, 1AM.

Click "Create Schedule", and it it will be stored in your account.

Schedules - Non-Recurring Device

The third type of Schedule is "Non-Recurring Device".

The "Non-Recurring" part indicates that the schedule is only run once - on a specified date and time.

The "Device" part shows that we're dealing with a Device as opposed to a Scene.

A screen shot to illustrate this type of schedule:

Non-Recurring Device Schedule
Non-Recurring Device Schedule

Once again, we have a unique name, followed by an optional description.

The Type is set to "Device, and the relevant device is selected from the list - in this case, "Television".

This Schedule turns the Television On, but you could equally use such a schedule to turn a device Off, by selecting the appropriate option.

As this is Non-Recurring, we specify the Date on which it is to run, followed by the time.

This example runs on the 1st of October 2008, at 10PM (22:00).

Click "Create Schedule, and it is saved in your account.

Top of page

Schedules - Non-Recurring Scene

The final schedule type is "Non-Recurring Scene". It sets a pre-defined scene on the specified date and time.

The following image illustrates this:

Non-Recurring Scene Schedule
Non-Recurring Scene Schedule

We have a Name and optional Description, just as with the other examples.

The "Type" is set to "Scene", which presents us with a list of scenes from which to choose.

The Date and Time is selected, in this case, 1st October 2009, 8:00AM (08:00).

Click "Create Schedule", and it will be stored in your account.

Top of page

Schedules - Enable/Disable

The "Manage Schedules" page now displays all the Schedules we have defined:

Manage Schedules
Manage Schedules

One of the columns is "Enabled" - and beneath this are links to each of your schedules.

Clicking on the link will toggle a Schedule between Enabled and Disabled.

First Schedule Disabled
First Schedule Disabled

Disabled schedules will not run at the prescribed time - which can be useful, for example, if you're away on holiday and wish to suspend a schedule without deleting it.

Top of page

Schedules - Edit

Schedules can be edited by clicking on their Name in "Manage Schedules".

You can change the name, description, type, device, scene, date, time or frequency of the schedule.

For specifics of the various options, see the sections above this.

Top of page

Schedules - Delete

If a Schedule is no longer needed, you can delete it from your account.

Please note that when a schedule is deleted, it can not be restored. If you wish to temporarily suspend the schedule rather than permanently deleted it, see the above section on "Enabling / Disabling".

To delete a device, click on the "Delete" button next to it's name in the "Manage Schedules" page.

You will be asked to confirm your choice, as shown below:

Deleting a Schedule
Deleting a Schedule

If you click "OK", the Schedule will be permanently deleted, if you click "Cancel", the Schedule will remain in your account.
